Fur-Person Treats!

This is Ringo, and these are his Strawberry Oatmeal Treats! He gets so excited when he smells them baking and knows they're his.

The original recipe came from Homemade Dog Treats Now at https://homemadedogtreatsnow.com/blueberry/. Thanks, HDTN!!!

I normally follow this recipe pretty much to the tee, except I omit the flax seed, but I was out of frozen blueberries today. Frozen strawberries to the rescue! Since they're both fruit and frozen, I thought it would be a pretty even exchange. Also, instead of grinding the oats to a flour-like consistency, I added them whole.

Ingredients:

1 cup blueberries or strawberries (I use frozen)

½ cup plain Greek yogurt

¼ cup ground flax seed (optional)

2-3 Tbsp. water

2/3 cup oatmeal

Directions

Preheat oven to 350º

Process the oatmeal until it has a flour-like consistency (unless you choose to leave it whole).

Puree fruit in processor. I defrost mine in the microwave first for easier processing.

Combine all ingredients in mixer and blend well. Add water slowly until mixture gets to a good handling consistency.

Lay spoonfuls of mixture on parchment paper, and flatten each ball with the back of a wet spoon or your fingers.

Bake for 18 minutes. Flip cookies and bake for another 10 minutes to dry them out.

Cool and keep refrigerated in an airtight container if you plan to use them within a week. I freeze mine in a baggie and give one treat to Ringo every evening. He lets it defrost for about 10 seconds and then starts munching away.

This recipe makes about 48 treats, and since Ringo only gets one per day, they last a long time!

Ringo isn't the only pampered pup. My grandpups, Tucker, Duncan, and Sophia also get these specially made treats when I visit them in DC! I'll be glad when they move back to Texas with their mom and dad, so I can spoil them more often!

Give your fur-person hugs and kisses daily, and remember that kindness has the power to change the world!
